About The Knuckles
Sri Lanka's Misty Mountain Wilderness
The Knuckles Mountain Range — known locally as Dumbara Mitiyawatha (The Misty Valley) — is a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning 234 sq km of extraordinary biodiversity. Named for its five-peaked silhouette resembling a clenched fist, it rises above 915 metres, draped in cloud forest, river valleys and ancient villages.
Home to 128 bird species, 31 mammal species and over 150 endemic plants, the Knuckles Range offers some of Sri Lanka's most rewarding trekking and wilderness experiences — all within 2–3 hours of Kandy.
